Gapuwiyak
Gapuwiyak is a Yolŋu community of approximately 1000 people located 220 kilometres from Nhulunbuy, approximately a three hour drive.
The Gapuwiyak community was established in the 1960s with the arrival of missionaries. A mission was developed based around a timber mill that supplied cypress pine to other missions in the region.
Today Gapuwiyak is home to the Gapuwiyak Culture and Arts Centre, and the community sits on the shore of the picturesque Lake Evella.
A permit is required from the Northern Land Council to visit this community.
Gapuwiyak Contractors Quarters
The Gapuwiyak Contractors Quarters is a short two minute walk from the Gapuwiyak airport and down to the Council Office, ALPA shop and health clinic. Gapuwiyak Culture and Arts Centre is located in the stunning community of Gapuwiyak, also known as Lake Evella, 220 kilometres west of Nhulunbuy. Gurrambalk Accommodation
Gurrambalk Accommodation and Business Village is located in Gapuwiyak, 220 kilometres from Nhulunbuy or approximately a three hour drive. The community-run Goŋ-Ḏäl Aboriginal Corporation operate Gurrambalk Accommodation, which has single and double accommodation units on offer with shared kitchen and living facilities and wifi.
