Overview

Sitting in the township of Nhulunbuy, North East Arnhem Land, is a sacred place called Gayŋaru. This place has been a sacred Yolŋu meeting place for thousands of years. It is a place that has provided food, medicine, water and shelter. It has held women in women’s business and men in men’s business.

During this special experience, Elder Djapirri Mununggirritj will guide you around this sacred place in the footsteps of her ancestors. You will hear ancient wisdom and stories, and you will learn how to identify important bush medicine and bush tucker plants that have provided food and medicine to Yolŋu for thousands of years.

Together, you will learn how to walk lightly and follow the footsteps of the ancestors of this land to awaken the ancient wisdom and feel a part of this sacred place on Country. 

Dates available for the 2024 Dry Season: 

  • 9.30am - 11.30am, Saturday 20 July
  • 9.30am - 11.30am, Saturday 24 August

If you are travelling to East Arnhem Land and the above dates do not align with your schedule, please get in touch. We can often accommodate last minute and private bookings.
