Bula’bula Arts
Overview
Bula’bula Arts Aboriginal Corporation is situated in the remote community of Ramingining in East Arnhem Land, 435 kilometres west of Nhulunbuy by road. Ramingining is surrounded by the Arafura wetlands, which has been placed on the Australian National Heritage list and is managed using traditional land management practices.
Bula’bula Arts is a Yolŋu owned, not for profit organisation with its core objective being to preserve and foster Yolŋu culture. Bula’bula Arts represents roughly 150 artists from Ramingining and surrounding homelands, and provides assistance through mentoring, business support, cultural maintenance and employment opportunities for a sustainable future.
The works created by Bula’bula’s artists are authentic in their connection to Yolŋu and their true nature and beliefs. The artworks often depict important Yolŋu cultural aspects such as ceremonies, songs, language, creative beings, family and Yolŋu identity within that, as well as the relationships between all things, including animals, plants, birds, trees, fish, water and people .
To enter the community of Ramingining and visit the art centre a permit is required from the Northern Land Council.
